Fan works fine, but no thermal paste,
Product description includes free thermal paste. No thermal paste received. Contacted seller who apologized for the lack of paste and said they would ship paste out. No paste ever received. Negative feedback left for seller.
Why a 3 rating for this product if the fan works? Thermal paste is needed to replace this fan as it connects to a copper coil CPU heat sink that must be removed in order to replace the fan.
The way the HP G7 laptop is designed you have to remove the heat sink from the cpu in order to replace the fan. Any time you remove the heat sink from a CPU it is advisable to replace the thermal paste.
We purchased this item because it was supposed to include the thermal paste. Figured, one stop and get everything we needed. Since the paste did not come with the item, we had to go out to a brick and mortar shop and pay through the nose for the thermal paste we needed to complete the repair in a timely manner.
If the item would have come with everything it said it would, I would have rated a 5. Fan is installed and is working great. No thermal paste made this a less than pleasurable purchase.

|Inexpensive fix for my wife’s HP G42t-200 Laptop,
We read a lot of advice on how changing the BIOS settings would address the processor overheating that my wife’s HP (G42t-200) laptop had been having but eventually I just bought this fan because it was a cheap thing to try. I fitted it to the existing heat sink, cleaned & re-added the thermal paste and it solved the problem like a champ.
One thing I will add is that the fan isn’t super easy to get to, or at least not as easy as some online instructions had suggested. It isn’t impossible but it will certainly take a jewelry screwdriver and another one that’s just one step bigger (along with a bit of patience) to do the work. group the screws on a piece of paper and write down where they go!! it’s easy to forget which one goes where! I’d also recommend drawing a little caveman sketch of the motherboard to remember where the 4 or 5 cables you unplug go when you re-assemble. The motherboard will need to be removed from the laptop itself to get at the fan. I managed to get it all back together with only one surplus screw at the end and everything works fine!
Our two options were either pay less than $20 for this fix and add some patience/TLC or buy a new laptop. This route worked fine and saved us hundreds on a new laptop.
